Weight Loss & Anxiety

Stress and Anxiety

Stress and anxiety tend to go hand in hand, and it is important to know that you are not alone when you feel high levels of stress and anxiety.

It is important to note that any unexplained weight loss is worth a visit to a doctor to be sure there is nothing medical that could be causing the loss, like a Thyroid Disorder.

If you have ruled out medical reasons for sudden Weight Gain or Loss, then it is time to look deeper at your levels of Stress and Anxiety. Everyone suffers from Stress from time to time and it can be good. Stress can cause your body to be more alert when you’re in a dangerous situation.

When it is daily stress that never seems to go away it can define every aspect of your life. When Anxiety becomes the culprit depends on how your mind reacts to stress or dangerous, read or preserved.

Weight Fluctuations

Anxiety can cause weight fluctuation for several reasons. Stress and Anxiety do together, and it can be difficult to separate the two feelings. Anxiety can cause both weight loss and weight gain by changing some of your standard everyday movements like:

Insomnia

Lack of sleep, or lack of uninterrupted sleep is common with anxiety. Lack of sleep causes your body to not produce the right about of cortisol.

Lack of Eating

When you are stressed you can have a lack of appetite or when you do eat it will be very little.

Nervous movement

With stress and anxiety, you may always be on the move, pacing and/or fidgeting. You may have a desire to always be engaged in cardio while missing out on required nutrients.

Production of Stress Hormones

When you are under stress your body naturally goes into fight or flight mode, producing hormones. These hormones come with side effects that can upset your body including digestive habits.
